Hiawatha Office Adopt a Family Outreach (2011)

The Hiawatha office decided to forego their annual Christmas gift exchange this year and donate that money to help families in need. Working with the local HACAP, the office adopted three families, shopped for much needed items on their lists, and delivered the food baskets and gifts to each family. The joy in knowing these families had a better Christmas and seeing their appreciation was worth much more than any material gift that could have been received. The advisors, staff, spouses and guests enjoyed a holiday pre-game dinner before attending the Iowa-Iowa State men’s basketball game in December. The food, fellowship, and game were all greatly enjoyed.

Hiawatha Office United Way Event (2011)

Advisors and staff in Hiawatha hosted a delicious fundraising event for United Way and turned it into a fun, friendly competition, too. Teams of four each prepared a meal and invited clients, prospects, neighbors, family and friends to the luncheon. The charge was $5 for all you could eat, and participants were asked to vote on their favorite team meal.
Receiving the most votes was the team of Nikki Wiltgen, Tina Kernwein and Jeff Busbee. They served a Mexican meal, which the rest of the office members admitted was really good. The luncheon raised $400 for United Way, and the teams had a lot of fun at the same time so this will be an annual event for the office.

Cedar Rapids Office Bowling for Japan, and Flowers to Fight Cancer (2011)

The Cedar Rapids office recently went bowling to raise money for the American Red Cross to go to earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan. SAMA families pledged money per pin for three games, and Brian Zimmerman, managing partner generously picked up the cost of bowling and for dinner afterwards. Everyone enjoyed the evening while supporting a worthy cause. Nicole Ehler organized support of Daffodil Days in the Cedar Rapids office. Daffodil Days is one of the American Cancer Society’s oldest fundraising programs, and uses the daffodil to symbolize the hope we all share for a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Nikki Wiltgen, Kathy Soldwisch, Kyle Zimmerman, Jan Beal, Ben Sorden and Brian Zimmerman helped Nicole by filling orders for flowers and/or delivering them to recipients.

Hiawatha Office PM Exchange Networking Event (2010)

The Hiawatha SAMA office hosted a PM Exchange last month, a monthly networking event put on by the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s designed to allow Chamber members an opportunity to host and bring new people into their places of business, while networking at the same time.
Our theme was a summer tailgate for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, and we brought in a local nonprofit group called Touchdowns for Kids to raise money for the hospital. We set up a tent in the back parking lot and had food catered by a local barbecue restaurant. Jeff Burroughs set up his music system and played DJ for the evening. We also had tailgate games and a surprise visit by the Iowa Hawkeye mascot, Herky the Hawk. All the Hawk fans in attendance enjoyed that. We had a decent turnout of 140 people – some familiar faces and a lot of new ones. Overall the event was a success and we’re on the Chamber list to host another PM Exchange in 2011.

Client Appreciation Night (2010)

Financial Advisor Thom Bowen and staff members, Tonya Johnson, Jenny Frazer, Cindy Rosser and Barbara Dalton held their 3rd annual client appreciation event at a Tulsa Drillers baseball game at the new stadium ONEOK Field in Tulsa. They decided to co-host it with a community bank that is an advocate for Thom’s business. Attendance doubled from years past. Ballpark food was a BIG hit and it was allot of fun to visit with clients while thanking and appreciating them for their business.
