The BZ Character Award recognizes a member of the Securian Advisors MidAmerica (SAMA) family who demonstrates the qualities epitomized by Brian Zimmerman, SAMA’s founder and former CEO:

As the leader of our firm for over thirty years, Brian’s strong ethical compass and generous heart were what helped build SAMA to what it is today. Those that had come to know Brian knew him to be determined, supportive and kind. He held himself to high standards and truly cared for others. His principles and legacy continue to live on throughout SAMA and we honor those who exemplify the qualities that were important to him.

About Brian Zimmerman:
Brian began his career in the financial services in 1979 and started his own firm a few years later. What started in his basement with a few members has grown into what we know today as Securian Advisors MidAmerica. His life’s work was building relationships and he had a passion for helping others.
A life-long Iowa Hawkeye fan, Brian enjoyed years of memories at Kinnick and Carver in Iowa City, Iowa, taking in any football, basketball, or wrestling match he could. He also enjoyed his days boating and fishing with his family.
Brian was an avid traveler, always ready for the next vacation or adventure. He loved planning new trips and instilled his love of travel in his children and grandchildren.
Brian was the first person to show up if you were sick, was always eager to help and contributed to his community in a multitude of ways. He didn’t believe in the praise of giving but focused on the act in itself. Brian believed that good in the world started with our own actions and worked every day to do that for others.
